ABNORMAL MAMMOGRAM OR ULTRASOUND adobe acrobat pdf of 'Total Mastectomy (No Reconstruction)'

Mammography is recommended as a baseline between the ages of 35 to 40 and annual after the age of 40 for all women in the United States. The films may often identify certain findings that may lead the radiologist to recommend further imaging. These findings include a mass, density, nodule, distortion, calcification, or thickening of the tissue. Most of these findings are NOT palpable.

It is important to remember that a majority of these findings are benign; however, further imaging may be needed to document the nature of the tissue. These additional images alone may be sufficient to determine the nature of the tissue, but in some cases, a biopsy may be needed.

Dr. Ricardo would prefer to look at the actual mammogram or ultrasound films to determine what additional evaluation, if any, needs to be done in order to accurately diagnose the cause of the imaging findings. The paper reports are NOT sufficient as description on paper is not always representative of the visual image. When you call for an appointment, you will be asked to obtain the films to bring with you to your appointment. These are easily obtained by calling the location where the imaging was done and simply request them for you to pick up before you appointment date.
